Sorry 2005 YU55, not this time

It appears as though Asteroid 2005 YU55 has missed us and the moon.  There were some saying that one or the other would be hit, with the mysterious google map images floating around the net again.  You know the one…the big X in the box.  People need to do some homework before jumping the gun.  Many rumors can be averted by doing some simple research and investigation.  Oh yeah, a little common sense helps too.

I just wonder what the next doomsday event might be.  Hmm, so many to choose from.  Anyway here and article that should help tie up this little loose end.  Happy doomsday!

Asteroid 2005 YU55 ‘looks like a giant rock floating through space,’ reports astronomer

“…During its closest approach, which occurred at 6:28 p.m. EST, it was inside the orbit of the moon, about 200,000 miles above the planet. It posed no threat to either.”

“…Computer models simulating the asteroid’s path for the next 100 years show there is no chance it will hit Earth or the moon during that time, said Don Yeomans with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

Astronomers do not expect it will be a threat beyond that time either but have not run the models beyond 100 years.”

Of course we never believe “official” sources.  We always do our OWN homework and come to logical conclusion on our own.  Don’t we?
