Do the “commandments” apply to those believing in Jesus?
Lets look at some scripture that may answer this question.
Deuteronomy 11:1 Therefore thou shalt love the LORD thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments, always. (notice the word “always”)
Mat 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach [them], the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Mat 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. (notice the word “hang”)
Jhn 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. (notice the words “if” and “keep”)
Jhn 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. (this one speaks for itself)
Jhn 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.
Here are a few more verses to add…
Deuteronomy 4:2 Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
Deuteronomy 12:32 What thing soever I command you, observe to do it: thou shalt not add thereto, nor diminish from it.
Mark 7:9 He was also saying to them, “You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your (K)tradition. (Boy, this describes today’s church!)
…and…a verse that seems to oppose all these others, but does not…
Rom 3:20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law [is] the knowledge of sin.
Note: It’s not that the law ever justified anyone, that is not their purpose. With these commandments the Father Yahuwah is showing us how to live righteously and what sin is. If we do not live as these commandments instruction then we are showing that we don’t care to live how Yahuwah instructs us to live, which in turn means the we are not His. Seeking to live by the whole instruction of Yahuwah is seeking Yahuwah. We will fail at times and we have one that redeems us from that failure. His name is Yahushua (Jesus) the Messiah.
Let us always be vigilant in our search for the truth and in the study of the word of Yahuwah. alleluYah!
1Jo 2:3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
1Jo 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
1Jo 2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
1Jo 2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
If all that doesn’t get the point across, read Psalms 119 http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psa+119&version=KJV
